BOOK REVIEW: THREE BROKEN PROMISES by Monica Murphy

Three Broken Promises (Drew + Fable, #3)Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I HAVE NO IDEA THAT THERE'LL BE A COLIN-JEN BOOK WHEN I INCLUDED THIS THING DOWN IN MY REVIEW FOR Second Chance Boyfriend WAY BACK IN JULY (I think):

"THIS - Colin and Jennifer’s character though, I’m intrigued by them. Me thinks, that there’s more to their relationship than the one discussed in this book. AAAAAH I hope that there will be a book that will focus on these characters. I think, their back story will be a great spring board for a great story."

DFHGBDSHFDS TOTALLY EXCITED TO READ MY COPY OF THIS BOOK! THANK YOU, NETGALLEY and BANTAM!

December 17, 2013. After a week or two of having my ARC request approved, FINALLY I was able to slip this in my reading list! I'm really excited for you guys to be able to get your hands and read this book on December 31st! Yes, what a nice way to ring in the New Year ...

REFRESHING YOUR MEMORIES. As I've mentioned in my freak out moment in the beginning of this post, Three Broken Promises tells us the story of Colin and Jennifer. We previously met these two characters in Second Chance Boyfriend, Colin Wilder as the owner of The District (the place where Fable worked) and Jennifer as the sort of manager/waitress in The District (who seems to have a very INTRIGUING relationship with Colin). I'm sure if you've read the previous book, you'll also be able to sniff that something is kinda off-on in the relationship of this two. THUS, THAT'S WHAT I FREAKIN' INCLUDED IN MY REVIEW FOR SECOND CHANCE BOYFRIEND AND MY WISH CAME TRUEEEE with the existence of this book!!!

STORY PROPER. The story opens with Jen deciding to leave their town because she wants to have a change of pace in her life. She wants to be free and experience to be independent. She's also running from the reminders of her past. It means that she's transferring to another town and will be living by herself. NOT Colin always magically appearing beside her and whooping in to save the day. Basically from that point, Colin and Jen's world just starts to open up.

NOW, WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN NEXT TO THESE TWO? HOW WILL COLIN DEAL WITH JEN LEAVING HIM? WHAT'S HE GONNA DO?

MY THOUGHTS. Most books injects the past of their characters as much as possible for it gives more depth to the story and showcases to us who the characters are truly are. But Three Broken Promises is also a story wherein it is rooted to the past with bad memories, overpowering emotion of grief and guilt. Our characters are very much tied down to their pasts and it is paralyzing them to move forward with their lives. Not even giving them selves their much deserved happiness, because of it. So throughout the book, you'll be able to witness both of them carefully maneuvering and untangling themselves from this tight grips that surrounds them ... until they allow themselves to be free of it and be able to find happiness with each other.

This book not only explores their haunting past and guilt but it also have other elements in it which are - the THREE BROKEN PROMISES, moments when Jen utterly craves for freedom and what they have (settled or agreed to have) in the present. All of these being narrated to us in both of their POVs, which then adds up to the feels we get from this book.

COLIN-JEN. "A certain guy wants and is pretty much in love with a certain girl BUT he thinks that he isn't deserving for her", Yep that's how Colin and Jen's situation is. But you need to understand that their past plays a big role in this one. (And you'll only find that out if you read this thing once it's available.)(Yes, I understand their past ...) But I'm a bit frustrated with the "they give in and then back out" and miscommunication thing that they've had in most parts of the book. It also took long for them to patch things up ... huff! Colin might as well be a mute for not being man enough (in some parts) for not telling Jen what he feels for her. Well anyways, it's very obvious that they care and love each other ... and has the hots for each other! Oh man, what a smoking pair they are!

DREW+FABLE'S APPEARANCE. Yes yes and yes! These two characters make an appearance in this installment and they played an important role in Colin and Jen's life. I love having them around and knocking some sense to people when they badly needed it. Though, Fable could use some toning down of her getting feisty and all. AND I ADMIT that I cried a little when Drew talked to Colin ... his words were just gahhhd! Readers, you better watch out for that scene!

*I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review*
