Release Day Book Blitz with Excerpt and Giveaway for 'Twelve Steps' by Veronica Bartles!

Twelve Steps
by Veronica Bartles
Release Date: 03/25/14

Book Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Andi is tired of being a second-class sibling to perfect sister Laina. There in Laina's shadow, Andi's only noticeable feature is her pretty awesome hair. And even that is eclipsed by Laina's perfect everything else.

When Andi’s crush asks her to fix him up with Laina, Andi decides enough is enough and devises a twelve-step program to wrangle the spotlight away from Laina. After all, great hair must count for something.

Step 1: Admit she’s powerless to change her perfect sister, and accept that her life really, really sucks. OK, maybe that's two steps in one.

Step 4: Make a list of her good qualities besides great hair. There have got to be at least three good qualities, right?

Step 7: Demand attention for more than just her shortcomings, and break out of her shell. Easier said that done, but worth the effort in the long-run.

When a stolen kiss from her crush ends in disaster, Andi finds that her prince isn’t as charming as she'd hoped, and realizes she may need a new program--perhaps with less steps!

As cracks in Laina’s flawless façade begin to show, the sisters work together to find a spotlight big enough for both to shine.

EXCERPT

“I really am sorry you’re so upset. You can yell at me, if it helps,” Laina says.

Of course I’m not going to yell at her. But obviously, I can’t tell her about Jarod’s visit this afternoon either. If she ever stopped being so clueless and realized he’s in love with her, I’d lose any hope of a chance with him.

I swallow hard and sit up, crossing my legs and leaning against the headboard. “You should be sorry. You’d think a straight-A student like you would be smart enough to realize that Oreos cannot be properly devoured without the requisite glass of milk.” I frown and stare at my empty hands, as if waiting for milk to magically appear.

“Oops!” Laina jumps up, giggling, and races out of the room.

Ramblings. Maybe Someday is included in my most anticipated books for 2014 list, so I’ve been literally counting down the days till the release of this book. Ha especially when we already hit the month of March. It doesn’t help that Maybe Someday appeals to me (twice or) MORE than any other books out there.

WHY?
1) I love Colleen Hoover.
2) I love books written by Colleen Hoover. Me thinks, that I haven’t given a book written by her a rating lower than 5 stars. That’s how much I love her and her books. SHE’s that amazing. Aha! And I think it has already been established in my system that I would read anything she writes … even her blog and Facebook posts!
3) I love music that I certainly can’t live without a day listening to any kind of music. Then Hoover pulls out a trick up her sleeve and tells us that there’s a soundtrack for this particular book. I wish you heard me screaming when she revealed that
.
With a blurb like that and the knowledge of a soundtrack coming our way it’s just too much. I can’t get the thought of it out of my mind and the feels invading my heart and body. So, as soon as Maybe Someday hit the stores and saw that it was already available in my Kobo device … I feels like a three-month late Christmas present appeared right in front of my very eyes. I DROPPED EVERYTHING THAT I WAS DOING. There was this huge need to … I. NEED. TO. READ. IT. RIGHT NOW!

Enough with my ramblings, let’s get this review started…

Seriously, I just want to cry right now because of how beautiful this book is! I don’t even know what to say. Breathless. Speechless. *runs to the corner of my room and sobs* Maybe Someday is certainly another Colleen Hoover masterpiece! She did it again, everyone! I tell you, this is one of those books that has a story and concept you won’t be able to forget. . Reading this book was truly a UNIQUE and UNFORGETTABLE experience! Thank you so much, Colleen for sharing this story with us!

I think, Maybe Someday is Colleen Hoover’s best book so far! Not that her other books weren’t great, but she just took writing a novel into a whole new superb level with this book. This book is unique, original, genius, fascinating, surprising, beautiful, real, heart wrenching, emotionally packed and huff *showers this book with all kinds of positive adjectives*.

I shouldn’t even be surprised by how beautiful this book turned out to be because time and time again, Hoover proved to us how talented, passionate she is into writing her books and how her books turn out to be carved into sheer perfection. Comparing it to her previous books (Slammed and Hopeless Series), I think this one is the most complicated book she’s ever written yet she still managed to weave everything seamlessly. Just writing this makes me want to cry again!

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY: All Lined Up (Rusk University #1) by Cora Carmack

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that I or us, readers are eagerly anticipating. Here's my pick this week ...

Title: ALL LINED UP (Rusk University #1)
Author: Cora Carmack (Website | Twitter
Publisher: William Morrow & Company
Expected publication date: May 13, 2014

SYNOPSIS

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.

Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

BOOK REVIEW: WAKING UP PREGNANT by Mira Lyn Kelly

Title: WAKING UP PREGNANT
Author: Mira Lyn Kelly (Website | Twitter
Publisher: Harlequinn Kiss
Publication Date: March 1, 2014

SYNOPSIS

The night that changed everything!

Waitress Darcy Penn is the smart, sensible type—flirting with the extremely cute guy in the bar just isn't her usual style. As for ending up in his hotel room? Definitely not! Sneaking out while he's in the bathroom to avoid the post-sex awkwardness? Much more like it….

If Darcy had stuck around, Jeff Norton could have told her about their "epic latex fail." So he shouldn't be quite so shocked when months later, Darcy turns up at his classy L.A. office and throws up in his wastepaper basket. She's got a bad case of morning sickness, and she's here to find out what he's going to do about it!

Ramblings. I love and adore books with babies involved in it. Yep, that’s pretty much the reason why I read this book and why an ARC of Baby for Keeps is sitting on my Netgalley account. Pregnancy, Soon-to-be moms and dads and babies just takes the book up a notch into a whole new heart warming level.

My thoughts. Waking Up Pregnant serves as a companion novel to Waking Up Married (which I haven’t read yet) but can certainly be read as a standalone novel. This book is short, sweet and emotional read about the characters of Jeff Norton and Darcy Penn who are into this dilemma of her being pregnant after their one-night stand in Vegas. The actual story takes place three months after that said night wherein Darcy drops by Jeff’s office and manages to turn his world upside down. Though, he kind of expected it after that mishap with the latex (in which he hasn’t had the time to tell her) during the time they’ve spent together BUT still shocked to see a proof and confirmation of it all. Crazy, NOT.

A little bit of back story of their Vegas fun night together and then we’re now launched through their story on how they’re going to deal with the information that a baby’s on the way, how they’re going to deal with each other and what their relationship is going to be like in the near future. But Darcy’s been this independent girl for most of her life (so she comes off as a bit stubborn) while Jeff’s the type of guy who’s willing to provide for everything and will make you want to cave in to his whims. Ha! They’re definitely bound to clash in one way or another …

Storyline quite familiar? So yeah, it’s pretty much predictable but it is definitely believable and really delivered on the emotional side of the story. It made me realize how emotional reader I am because I really bawled my eyes out while reading this book and my heart’s doing this squeezing thing. With this book being such a short read, we actually see the characters opening up and developing within its pages and that’s actually beautiful to witness. They were able to learn, accept and cherish the changes happening in their selves and lives. *SIGH* Though, I would have appreciated it more if there were scenes where Connor and his wife made an appearance together or more stuff about Jeff’s business and all that, just to make us see that there’s more to the characters mentioned in this book.

Okay, that’s pretty much it. If you want to read something short and want to cry your hearts out, then you should definitely pick this book up.

Now a senior, Meg catches the eye of not one, but two guys at school (I know, right?). They happen to both be gorgeous, and each vies for her attention in the most flattering of ways. Sounds good, right? Not if one of the guys is her boyfriend, and the other one wants to be.

Meg doesn’t want to lose Ash. They’ve been together for almost five months, and she’s falling in love with him. But Noah. Ah, Noah. He’s the irresistible guy Meg has been crushing on for two years, and she isn’t ready to send him away either. But stringing both along could have disastrous results, leaving Meg in the cold once again.

One thing's certain. Meg needs to decide between Ash and Noah soon, or she'll lose her perfect match forever.

PERFECT FOR YOU was released previously as two novellas. Ashleyn wanted to give her readers more, and has decided to write an entire novel based around Meg's story.

EXCERPT

Once we’re at the candy stand, Terrence places his order while I scope out the scenery. I keep a low profile until I see Micah. He leans against the edge of the carousel booth and motions someone over to him. It’s a guy. He’s shorter than me, about Micah’s height. Brunette. Thin but somewhat athletic. Then Micah hugs him.

“Uh oh,” Terrence says, following my gaze. “You better go squash that now or someone else will be playing your Xbox games.”

“Shut up,” I mumble. But he’s right. Micah is all too friendly with this guy.
It physically stings. What the fuck is wrong with me? There’s no way I’m jealous. I mean, yeah, if this dude showed up at his house and crashed an Xbox session, I’d be pissed. But Micah is free to talk to whomever he damn well pleases.

Except this guy.

I tell Terrence that I’ll be back and make a beeline for the carousel. I slow down once I’m a bit closer, shake my hair like an emo kid to look a little more natural, and stand tall – because you know, male dominance and all that. Whatever that other guy says is in one ear and out the other the moment Micah sees me.
