BOOK REVIEW: HOLD ON TIGHT (Sea Breeze #8) by Abbi Glines

Title: HOLD ON TIGHT (Sea Breeze #8)
Author: Abbi Glines (Website | Twitter
Publication Date: June 3, 2014
Publisher: Simon Pulse

SYNOPSIS

Six years ago, Dewayne Falco's life changed. He lost someone he never expected to lose. Resigned to punish himself for something he felt he could have prevented, he goes through life without getting too close to anyone.

What he didn't expect was for the girl across the street to move back home and remind him of what they both lost: Dewayne's younger brother Dustin. However, when a miniature version of Dustin opens the door to greet him, Dewayne realizes he might not have lost everything after all.

Sienna Roy loved Dustin Falco most of her life. He was the boy next door, the high school basketball star and her best friend. But when his life was cut short, she realized he left a part of himself behind.

Now, she's back in Sea Breeze, thankful to have a home for her and Dustin's son, but not sure if she can ever forgive the people across the street who abandoned her when she needed them the most — The Falcos.

Betrayal, lies, and forbidden attraction might end Dewayne and Sienna's story before it's even begun.

It wasn’t in my plan to read Hold on Tight yesterday but (dagnabit) when I saw it staring at me in my reader … I knew that I just have to. In case you didn’t know, Hold on Tight is the eighth and final book of the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines. When I learned that the Sea Breeze series is ending already, I immediately felt sad. Abbi Glines was able to create a very interesting set of characters that you’ll end up craving for more and more moments just to be with them. I got really attached to them while reading the first four books and then just got more attached during the next four instalments. Plus, Glines is really good with “fans myself” scenes. And there were loads of those scenes in this series. *waggles my eyebrows*

I was one of those fans who totally guessed that Krit and Dewayne’s going to have a book for themselves. Both of them really stood out in the 6th book of the series, Misbehaving, and you’ll be able to feel that their characters are being build up during that book. Here’s what I said here in my Goodreads’ review after Glines announced the existence of 7th and 8th book:

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

I hope Silver Shadows will be less predictable than The Fiery Heart! Though, I'm still on board with this series because of SYDRIAN (FEELS) and some Vampire Academy series characters making appearance here and there. Ha! Check out my review for TFH here.

TOP TEN TUESDAY (2): TOP 10 BOOKS ON MY SUMMER TBR LIST

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the awesome people over at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is about the TOP TEN BOOKS ON MY SUMMER TBR LIST! But since it's not summer over here in the Philippines, I'll just list down SOME of the books that I'm anticipating to be released in the coming months and some books that were released already but I still haven't got the time to read it yet! Most of the books even have the summer-y feel to it. :)

UGLY LOVE by Colleen Hoover
Publication Date: August 5, 2014
Publisher: Atria Books
Synopsis:
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.Promises get broken.Rules get shattered.Love gets ugly.
I already prepared lots of tissues for the release of this book. I'm scared that it's going to break my heart again and again and again. Here's what Colleen Hoover (the author herself) said about Ugly Love:
Miles. Miles, Miles, Miles. Seven books I've successfully completed. Will? He didn't make me cry when I wrote him. Holder? Nope. No tears, here. Daniel? I might have pissed myself laughing. Ridge? Heart wrenching, soul-crushing. But dry eyes. Miles?Miles, Miles, Miles. He's making me bawl like a baby.

What are your top three book pet hates?

  • Folded Pages
  • Lines on the spine
  • Books with BDSM scenes or books with characters who's relationships are built around it. FSoG-ish books *cringes* If I ended up reading one, I tend to skim-read it just to figure out the back story of the character and why he/she engages in such a thing. And if having that kind of back story makes having BDSM relationship more bearable. Uhh.

Describe your perfect reading spot:
  • My bed with all my pillows and stuff (or when it gets cold, I get to cuddle with my blanket.) Though, any place that's quiet will do for me.

Tell us three book confessions:
  • Most of the times, I read the book first on my Kobo reader and then purchase it off of a bookstore!
  • If a book gets a bit wordy and just full on rant mode, I tend to skim read it.
  • I've read Fifty Shades of Grey already but haven't read the next two books of the series. I don't know if I'll read the two, though. But if I do ... I'll prolly just read it to know Christian's back story.

When was the last time you cried while reading a book?
  • Making Faces by Amy Harmon (which I've just read yesterday and THE FEELS ARE DEFINITELY STILL ALIVE!) I totally recommend read this book! It was a very moving and inspiring read with a beautifully written narrative. Consider me a fan of Amy Harmon already! Check it out, here.

BOOK REVIEW: INFINITY + ONE by Amy Harmon

Title: INFINITY + ONE
Author: Amy Harmon (Website | Twitter)
Publication Date: June 8, 2014

SYNOPSIS

When two unlikely allies become two unwitting outlaws, will two unforgettable lovers defy unbeatable odds?

Bonnie Rae Shelby is a superstar. She’s rich. She’s beautiful. She’s impossibly famous. And Bonnie Rae Shelby wants to die.

Finn Clyde is a nobody. He’s broken. He’s brilliant. He’s impossibly cynical. And all he wants is a chance at life.

One girl. One boy. An act of compassion. A bizarre set of circumstances. And a choice – turn your head and walk away, or reach out your hand and risk it all?

With that choice, the clock starts ticking on a man with a past and a girl who can’t face the future, counting down the seconds in an adventure riddled with heartbreak and humor, misunderstanding and revelation. With the world against them, two very different people take a journey that will not only change their lives, but may cost them their lives as well.

Infinity + One is a tale of shooting stars and fame and fortune, of gilded cages and iron bars, of finding a friend behind a stranger’s face, and discovering love in the oddest of places.

This is actually the first book from Amy Harmon that I’ve read so I really don’t know what to expect towards her writing and how she deals with her characters. But some bloggers and friends of mine who’ve read a couple of books coming from her (esp. Making Faces) were giving me the heads up to give this one a try. So, I think it was two weeks before the release of Infinity + One that I came across it and added it up on my TBR list. I even featured it on the blog for my Waiting on Wednesday feature. That’s how excited I was on to reading this book.

In Infinity + One we meet two characters who by faith (or whatever we call it that), met and embark on a journey together. We have Bonnie Rae Shelby who’s a superstar and has everything in life. But would love to run away from it just to find herself and have shot in making her own choices in life. Then we have Finn Clyde, who went through a lot in his past and all he wants now is to have a chance at life. And be able to fully live it.

Was it just me or the story’s pacing was really slow? Me thinks it was the story, though. Honestly, there were moments where I would like to put the book down already and just pick it up in another hour to be able to finish it. Even the vibe of the story at first was eerily calm but you know it by instinct that there’s something big that’s bound to happen in next chapters. The calm before the storm.
