Waiting on Wednesday: RUIN AND RISING by Leigh Bardugo

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that I or us, readers are eagerly anticipating. This is the first time that I'm participating in this really cool event, sooooo I'm quite happy to present to you my pick this week ...

Title: RUIN AND RISING (The Grisha #3)
Author: Leigh Bardugo (Website | Twitter)
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co.
Expected publication: June 17, 2014

SYNOPSIS:
The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

Ramblings. You're probably wondering why I choose Ruin and Rising as the first book that I featured here rather than my pick for my MOST anticipated book of 2014, which is City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. Well, the answer is ...it's because of the fact that I just finished reading both Shadow and Bone and Siege and Storm last week. So, my Grisha feels are still all over the place. I tell you, those books are just so awesome and how Leigh Bardugo played with the plot and her characters - uhhh those were the bombs, two thumbs up and high fives of these series! I highly recommend this to you, guys!

"Shadow and Bone is the first book of The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo and this one’s a really great way to start off a series. This book is set in this very unique, dark and magical world of Ravka where Kings, Queens and this super cool people called The Grisha or “Soldiers of the Second Army – Masters of the Small Science” exists. I highly suggest that you start reading this book with a clear head and doesn’t have any book hangovers because there are a number of terms that you need to take in. It could get quite overwhelming at first but once you get the hang of it, I’m sure you’ll immensely enjoy it.", from my review of Shadow and Bone.
"Siege and Storm is definitely packed with adventure, action, tension, magic here and there, jaw-dropping moments and a smidge of romance!", from my review of Siege and Storm.
