For sixteen-year-old Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows—including her longtime neighbor and honorary fourth brother, Braden. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of makeup, lacy skirts, and BeDazzlers. Even stranger, she's spending time with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pickup game.

To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats can't solve Charlie's biggest problem: she's falling for Braden. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

This is the first ever book that I've read written by Kasie West and just by reading this one she definitely convinced me to add her on my list of favorite authors. *thumbs up*

Eeeeeep! I'm in love with this book! The story and the characters were just soooo cute!!! My reading experience for this book included me being surrounded by rainbows, sunshine and unicorns. It was just a light, fast and fluffy read. Don't get me wrong there was drama in there but it wasn't the over the top drama we usually find now in books.

Plus, I love how this book tackles on self-discovery, overcoming shyness and outgrowing the expectations of the people who have been around us almost all of our lives. Love it! :)

I'm going to check her other books NOW! <3

SYNOPSIS

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

I could have finished this book last night or a couple of hours ago but *shakes my head*. Nope. Nope. Nope. I don't want to finish it yet. I don't want to let it go. I don't want to say bye bye to Caymen and Xander. But sadly all great things must come to an end. Huff. So now I'm nursing my book hangover over these two books that I've read written by Kasie West. =)) =((

The Distance Between Us involves quite a complicated love story between our main characters - Caymen Meyers and Xander Spence. Despite the complications, Kasie West manages to inject a certain air of lightness in her books through her characters. She has proven herself that she can really create great characters, give them distinct voices and breathe life into them through their personalities!

Diving into this book, I was thinking of how she will be able to separate the voices of Caymen and Charlie(from On the Fence). Then oh man, just a few pages in with this book I was already loving Caymen's character! West crafted Caymen into this very witty and sarcastic girl. She also got that dry sense of humor going on. Priceless reactions and moments concerning her sarcasm and dry sense of humor are all over the book. Seriously. I couldn't even count the number of times I gave myself a face palm (even pounded my head on my pillow) when I was reading this book. She's such a fascinating character. Even her train of thought fascinates and entertains me. Fun and great times!

Oh Xander. This guy right here is oh so sweet and cute! I love how he can exude an air of being rich and mighty but never ever thinks of belittling other people. He breaks away from the norm where rich/hot guys comes across as arrogant dudes. Xander's just a normal guy (with manners) who's also searching for his purpose and thinking of his future. I adore every single gesture he did for Caymen. Very endearing!

I love how Caymen and Xander's relationship was built from friendship. They may have been flirting here and there but they didn't act upon it. They were just there for each other in figuring what they could possibly do with their lives in the future. Xander's career days for Caymen were well-thought of while Caymen's OH LOL! I can't even with that girl! Poor Xander. There were LOTS of moments wherein I just couldn't stop myself from grinning like an idiot. BECAUSE DAMN FEELS. West is awesome in making me feel feels! Ughhh. STAHP!

There was a certain scene in this book that got me teary eyed. It was the one with Sean. I really felt their need to make up for the lost years of being together and a family. *sniffs* I wish that West could've added more scenes with Sean, Vivian and Susan because I could already imagine it being a very heartfelt moment.

All in all, I had a great reading experience with this one and would definitely recommend it and Kasie West's other book, On the Fence. You could never go wrong with both of those books. <3

  1. So glad you loved them! I've been a fan of Kasie West since I read her debut Pivot Point. I have never been much of a fantasy reader but I thought her concept was original. I really enjoyed it but have not yet read the sequel
