Pages to Screen

*light bulb sound* Great thinking Hollywood executives, directors, scriptwriters and book authors.

Today's generation is bombarded with loads of exciting book series and has certainly received good feedback from the readers. Thus, building a huge FANDOM surrounding it.

Taking this fact into consideration, the Hollywood trend of today is turning these bestseller books into blockbuster movies.

A Book and Great Author + Brilliant Director and Scriptwriter (crew) + Perfect Actors for the lead roles = A+++ and millions of money.

Readers of the book + fans of the actors = totally insane and HUGE FANDOM.

Magical Pages to a Magical Movie Experience

June 26, 1997 (UK Release Date for the book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), I'm sure Potterheads won't forget this significant date that ignited everything else in HP's world. The whole world (young or old people) was introduced and entered the world of Magic, Harry Potter, Hogwarts, magic spells and curses.

But it was only after FOUR YEARS (2001) that this book was turned into a movie. I can clearly remember the date when it was released in the United States (why? It was a day before my birthday). November 16 it is.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and J.K. Rowling + Chris Columbus (Director) + Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint (THE TRIO) = oh well, everyone of you knows the end result, A WORLDWIDE MAGICAL PHENOMENA.

Vampires of Today

Twilight, the first book of The Twilight Series (vampire-romance) was published on October 5, 2005. The world was introduced to the dangerously hot and gorgeous creatures that existed in the fictional world.

When talking about this book series, we can't avoid mentioning these beautiful names created by Stephenie Meyer: Isabella Marie Swan, Edward Anthony Masen Cullen, Jacob Black, Alice Cullen, Rosalie Hale and many more.

The hype for this book got so fast that in 2004, Paramount Pictures' MTV Film was the original option as the studio to make a movie version of it. But then it faltered for they've produced a script that was quite far from the story line of the Twilight novel.

2006 - Erik Feig (President of Production at Summit Entertainment) made a deal to Stephenie Meyer and promised her that the film would be true to her vision.

The DIRECTOR AND SCRIPTWRITER. August 31, 2007 - Summit officially signed Catherine Hardwicke as the director and Melissa Rosenberg as the scriptwriter of the movie. Then we're off to casting...

(A day before my birthday AGAIN) On November 16, 2007 - Summit posted an official press release saying that Kristen Stewart will be playing the 17-year-old, Isabella Swan. And it was also announced that the production of the film will start by February of '08.

December 11, 2007 - Robert Pattinson was revealed to be playing the role of EDWARD CULLEN

Then, BAMMMMMMMMMMM! The rest is HISTORY

"BRIT" Invasion?

Who are the artists / BOYBANDS making a scene and topping the charts? Who are the movie actors you're ultimately having crushes on and dying to watch their latest movies on the big screen? What book series topped the best-sellers list in the US, UK and around the world? (--- young people these books are not for you) And who's the model who currently won America's Next Top Model?

Wait. I'll try to answer those ONE by ONE.

MUSIC SCENE STEALERS/CHART TOPPERS

ONE DIRECTION. THE WANTED. CHER LLOYD. ADELE. These are just some of the music artists headlining and on the spotlight when were talking about the music of today's generation.

ONE DIRECTION (Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik) *inserts millions of screaming girls and "FANGIRLING over them*, is a British / Irish boyband who appeared on the hit talent show, The X Factor UK. They finished off as the third runner up for the 7th season (2010). Well not being the winner for that season set them off from reaching and fulfilling their DREAMS.

It didn't took long enough for them to release a debut single (What Makes You Beautiful) and album (Up All Night), which even led them into winning a Brit Award this year. *clap clap clap* That's not the end of it, when Up All Night was released in the United States it went straight to number one on the Billboard 200, selling 176,000 copies in its first week. Thus, entitling One Direction as the first UK group in history to achieve this feat with their debut album. *throws confetti waaaaaaaaah!*

THE WANTED. *Proud of these guys too aaaaaaaah* Getting their song chosen as the theme song for the movie "Ice Age: Continental Drift" Pretty much, one of their major achievements in the U.S. Seen the music video or NOT? Well, here it is. . .

FAMOUS ONES

Edward Cullen. Batman. Spider-Man. All of the actors portraying these roles have one thing in common...They're all BRITISH! You can catch these UBER HOT MEN on their up and coming movies. Andrew Garfield - The Amazing Spider-Man (June 29, released date here in the Philippines). Christian Bale - The Dark Knight Rises. Robert Pattinson - Cosmopolis and on the EPIC FINALE of The Twilight Saga (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2)

BOOK JUNKIES

FACT 101: Fifty Shades of Grey originally started out as a TWILIGHT FANFICTION. Original Title: Master of the Universe or avid readers call it as MOTU. Writer's Pen name at that time: Snowqueens Icedragon.
AND NOW . . . .
Title of the book series: Fifty Shades Trilogy (Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) Author: E.L. James

The story follows through with the RELATIONSHIP of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. *Book contains EROTIC SCENES*

Bestseller. And now, already in talks for a movie. Everything just happened quickly! Bow down to E.L. James.

PASSION FOR FASHION

America's Next Top Model Cycle 18, dubbed as the "British Invasion". The winner for this cycle was Sophie Summer (BRIT all the way).

Music. Movies. Books. Fashion. See? The Brits have it all.

The Brits invaded every single aspect. Is it safe to say already that the Brits have loads of influence in today's generation?

Think. Think. Think about it, guys and gals!

Hollywood reboots "-MAN" Heroes from DC and Marvel Comics!

We may consider that from last year's movie scene, we received a NO show from SPIDER-MAN, SUPERMAN and BATMAN. But instead we've got the chance to meet other DC and Marvel heroes. Thor, Green Lantern, Captain America and Iron Man's character stories were now highlighted and given the chance to be turned into hit movies.

But now, we may already need some trend check. It may just seems that Hollywood may now be trailing the path for the reboots of the "-MAN" superheroes.

Case #1: June 29, 2012 (for Philippines) - release date for The Amazing Spider-MAN movie. After 4 years of NO Peter Parker on our movie screens, Sony Pictures decided to reboot the whole franchise. This movie will be quite different from the first three, for this one will be a Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst FREE. Instead a new set of actors will be stepping in for the roles.

The Social Network/American-British actor, Andrew Garfield was the one who landed the most coveted role for this movie...Peter Parker/Spider-MAN. While Emma Stone will be playing his character's love interest, Gwen Stacy.

The story focuses on the high school Peter Parker who's trying to discover the ins and outs of life. And as he was figuring out his identity, secrets were unlocked and the next thing he knew... Check out the movie's trailer!

Case #2: On what year did we last saw Superman on movie theaters? Uhmmm. It was 2006, wherein Brandon Routh played Clark Kent/Superman in the movie Superman Returns.

That's not the end of the Superman movies though. Warner Bros. gives us MAN OF STEEL (reboot title for Superman). It is slated for release on June 14, 2013. Henry Cavill will be playing the role of Superman and Amy Adams for Lois Lane.

August 4, 2011, Warner Bros. released a first look image of Henry Cavill in costume as Superman. TADA!

Last one, Case #3: Not a reboot, but it's intended to be a CONCLUSION to a series. Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and now, the last installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman Film series ... THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. The movie is scheduled for release on July 20.

Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the movie. While Anne Hathaway joins the cast as she steps into the role of Selina Kyle. Watch the movie trailer below.

We really cannot tell what Hollywood's biggest studios are up to their sleeves when it comes to producing movies. Maybe in the up and coming years, they'll really take time and produce MOST of the DC and MARVEL characters in a movie format.

Ooopsie. Before I leave, you better watch The Amazing Spider-MAN once it gets released on your countries! Happy Watching! :)
