BOOK REVIEW: REBOOT (Reboot #1) by Amy Tintera

I'm reposting this BOOK REVIEW for REBOOT since I've currently reread it. And yep, I was definitely refreshing myself with everything that had happened in this book before I proceed into reading an ARC of REBEL. Hihi! :)

SYNOPSIS

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

I finished reading this book a couple of hours ago and was debating if I should make a review/reaction post or not. Well then, I decided to craft one because this book is sooooo good (for me, guys. I definitely encourage you to try reading this book and then you can tell me what you think of it). I won’t be into the details of the story; I just want to vent out and share my emotions towards this book. SPOILER-FREE POST. I think.

BOOK (REBOOT): I haven’t read any other book with the same concept as to this one. With dead people coming back to life *coughs* not the vampire type of thing *coughs* or should I say dead people REBOOTED to life. I love how Amy Tintera set up the pacing of the book, it really fits the concept and story perfectly. From the moment you get started with this book, you’re immediately thrown into its world and face the bad-assery (is that even a word? LOL) of One seventy-eight. With everything single page you turn, there's something happening with the characters. Just so good. No more unnecessary lines, paragraphs or whatsoever were included; the story was just presented as it is. My mind just slipped in to the story easily. WARNING: There are parts of this book that you may need to stop reading for a bit ‘cause YOU WON’T CONTAIN YOUR FEELS. All in all, it’s a thumbs up for me!

NOW. I’ll talk about the main characters of the book. Wren, One seventy-eight is just so bad-ass, from the first page until the end of the book. Her character was well built, very tough from being a one seventy-eight and several years of being a REBOOT. The decisions she made concerning Twenty-two really left me SPEECHLESS. I never thought that she would do that based from the persona shown at the beginning of the story. For it seems like, she was the type of person who lives by a pattern and does not intend to break it. But oh well, she got some soft spot for him (image of Twenty-two POUTING at her *faints*). And I also love how her emotions developed all throughout the book; from what she was saying that her emotions are non-existent until … yeah. *one seventy-eight and twenty-two feels*. Twenty-two tried to crack her shell and made her feel that it’s OKAY TO FEEL something towards the people around her. *happy dance* ‘cause Twenty-two was successful!

DON’T GET ME STARTED WITH TWENTY-TWO. *22 by Taylor Swift starts playing inside my head huhuhu* The moment Callum aka Twenty-two made an appearance in this book, I just know it that Wren’s life will turn upside down. And I guessed correctly. Their first interaction – NO, I NEED TO STOP THIS, I’M GONNA BURST WITH FEELS! I love Callum’s character despite him being a lower number; love how his emotions are very human which is pretty much contradicting to Wren’s. I love how he injects humour and lightens the dull/rough/intense situations of the book with whatever comes out of his mouth. Callum’s cuteness is just peppered all over the book. And I can go on all day saying good things about this guy and I won’t be tired. I JUST LOVE HIM, OKAY?

And I really love every single Wren-Callum interaction. So cute and so sweet <3

The ending of the book: I haven’t checked if REBOOT is the first book of a trilogy/series when I decided to read this. So is it? Yes, right? Right? ‘Cause the ending is just … PLEASE HAND OVER A COPY OF THE NEXT BOOK. *kneels and beg* I want to know what happens next to these characters in the … (READ THE BOOK if you want to know :P).

I’m so sorry. It’s a mess. I’m a mess. HUHUHU My FANGIRL FEELS took over my review-ish post.
But based from this post, you can definitely say that I really enjoyed reading this book. Haha!
I’m off. :)

  1. The book sounds really interesting. But there is a lot of Sci-Fi-stuff in it right?

    1. Hey, Sunshine! Yeah, there's the Sci-Fi and Dystopian feel to this book! The whole concept of Reboot and the world building itself is very easy to grasp and light. You'll definitely enjoy reading it! :)

    2. It's on my wish list now :) Did you read "Proxy" by Alex London? I love this book. It's a Sci-Fi Dystopian as well!
      Here is my review: http://booksto-remember.blogspot.de/2014/04/review-proxy-by-alex-london.html
It's inspired by "The Whipping Boy" but totally different in it's own way :)
